My Candidate Statement

District 3 has changed dramatically during my more than twenty years as a property owner and resident. Urban sprawl is steadily threatening the quality of life in an area that is known for its green fields, clean air, good water, and wonderful neighbors. It is almost impossible to prevent growth in rural areas but it can be controlled through proper zoning and enforcement of existing laws and regulations. Farms, small businesses and cottage industries have been here for decades and should be encouraged to thrive.

My past and present experiences as Chairman of the Economic Development Task Force, member of the Blue Ribbon Panel on Criminal Justice, Chairman of the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Advisory Committee, and Chairman of the Washington State Jail Industries Board have provided an understanding of the problems that we currently face.

Elected officials must understand the needs of the people that they represent. The Charter Review Commission members can see that the Charter allows the county to retain its economic vitality and quality of life well into the future.

I ask for your vote so that we can join together in keeping Whatcom County the place where our children will flourish and make their homes.

Whatcom County Charter Review

Whatcom County has evolved from a pioneer community to where it is today through the natural growth experienced in the northwest. It is one of the most wonderful places in which to live but its quality of life is constantly threatened by urban sprawl and uncontrolled growth. This is especially true in rural areas that have become targets for intense development.
